We are firm believers here at Black Mantle that if you don’t try, you don’t get.
Both of us have spent most of our lives taking huge risks and doing things that made us feel uncomfortable.
Some of those decisions paid off, and some of them ended up being lessons that taught us exactly what not to do!
But the one thing we always said, was that it’s better to give things a try and go down in a blaze of glory, rather than never give it a shot.
Now this isn’t a motivational self-help blog so you might be thinking, how does this relate to miniature painting?
Well…I am glad you asked.
Not only are we mini painters ourselves, but we also speak to so many other extremely talented and passionate hobbyists on a daily basis.
One thing we often come across is that people worry about doing things wrong or not getting a technique right on their first time around.
First of all, why would you get it right? You have never done it before so of course you aren’t going to be doing edge highlights with laser precision like Infernal Brush, who I also believe would make an exceptional Neuro Surgeon.
Maybe you tried a dry brush technique once with a Zenithal Prime and it didn’t go the way you wanted, is that a reason to quit?
Absolutely not, it’s expected that you won’t get these things right your first time around, but the more you do it and the more you practice the better you will get.
This hobby is incredible and it offers so much variety in terms of the kind of models you can paint and the techniques that are available to master.
Don’t like Slap Chop? Don’t do it. Don’t like painting with a brush? Use a make up sponge.
Never before has it been easier to learn how to do something that you previously thought was only reserved for the top level painters.
There are so many YouTube tutorials now or Patreon’s that have both video and PDF tutorials for you to follow along to.
The good thing is, most of these things are either free or extremely cheap!
So next time you think that it’s too hard to paint a Drukhari Kabalite Warrior squad because they are so small, just remember that with every brush stroke you put down, you get just a little bit better.
